ADILABAD/ KARIMNAGAR: The construction of 2BHK houses is progressing at various levels of speed in the Assembly Constituencies. Interestingly, work in the Assembly Constituencies that are represented by ministers, is moving at commendable speed, while work in those Assembly Constituencies that are being represented by MLAs are moving at snail’s pace. Furthermore, the 2BHK housing scheme is yet to take off in mandals due to the unavailability of government lands.
In MLAs Assembly Constituencies in old Adilabad and Karimnagar districts, the construction is moving really slowly. But in Sircilla and Adilabad and Nirmal Assembly Constituencies being represented by the ministers K.T. Ramarao, Jogu Ramanna and Allola Indrakaran Reddy, the buildings are coming up remarkably well within deadline. It is evident that the ministers are making this as a prestige issue especially in view of the coming elections.
A source in the government circles said that the ministers have convinced the contractors of lucrative deals elsewhere, so that the work in their constituencies can be completed fast and efficiently.
Meanwhile, contractors working on the 2BHK housing are a disgruntled lot, unhappy with the government’s differential stand on the pricing of rural and urban housing. In fact, that is one of the main reasons why the construction is progressing slowly in MLA represented constituencies, and not at all in the mandals.
A contractor who wishes to be anonymous said, “The ministers’ represented 2BHKs are moving faster because we are hoping to get bigger and more lucrative contracts from them. But MLAs have lesser power, so the benefits are not assured. This is why contractors are dragging their feet on the MLA represented 2BHKs. Same reason applies for the mandals too. The contractors are unhappy with the government pricing.”
As many as 1,260 2BHK housings are being constructed at Mandepalli village in Sircilla.
Collector Krishnabhaskar is monitoring the construction work on a regular basis.
The 2BHK are being constructed at Jainad (160), Mavala (40) and Adilabad town (230) but construction work is going on fast in the Adilabad Assembly Constituency. 2BHK are also being constructed at Yellapalli village in Nirmal Assembly constituency and minister Indrakaran Reddy is making regular visits to the construction site.
