Shifting of 2 lakh employees in 1 day is a record

The new districts were launched on October 11.

Hyderabad: The TS government has created a record by transferring over 2 lakh employees in a single day after formation of new districts. The new districts were launched on October 11 and over 2 lakh employees reported for duty in the 31 districts.

While appointing employees for the new districts, the state government also changed some officers and employees in the existing 10 districts. The TS government transferred over 2 lakh employees of the 26 departments and posted them in the existing and new districts. Principal Secretary, planning, B.P. Acharya, who studied the reorganisation of districts in other states, including Odisha, said that posting of over 2 lakh employees in a single day in TS was a record.

Mr Acharya said that the Odisha government formed 17 new districts in addition to existing 13 districts (four in 1992, 10 in 1993 and three in 1994). Between 1992 and 1994, the Odisha government took steps to create only basic administrative set up comprising collector, SP and project director, DRDA or ITDA, and no separate district office for other departments was created immediately.

Mr Acharya said in the case of TS, the government appointed officers and other staff of all departments in all the new districts. He said that the space created due to shifting of staff to new districts would be used to set up regional centres of the Telangana State Remote Sensing Application Centre.
