Education Minister Raveendranath launches One day, one rupee' scheme

Under the project with the motto One day One rupee', students will collect Rs 1 every day.

KOZHIKODE: Education Minister Prof C. Raveendranath launched a state-level school and college students’ initiative ‘Kootu’ at the higher secondary school on the medical college campus here on Saturday. Under the project with the motto ‘One day One rupee’, students will collect Rs 1 every day, that will be later used to help the needy, especially youngsters.

‘Kootu’ is one of several projects taken up by “Dhisha Kerala,” a novel students’ initiative launched by Farook Arts and Science College. It is the brainchild of K. Dinu, a final-year student who had raised his voice against the gender discrimination in various educational institutions a few months back. With over 500 college and school student volunteers in the region, ‘Dhisha Kerala’ aims at helping the needy, discarding the ideas of religion, caste and creed.

‘Kootu’ will help bedridden children by giving them individual care through the volunteers. The volunteers have been given a small diary in which they jot down the needs of each child after visiting them. “Later we meet their needs. At present the initiative is carried out in the districts of Kozhikode, Malappuram, Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram,” said Dinu.

The minister appreciated the efforts taken by the students to help the children of their age. MLA A. Pradeep Kumar was also present at the function.
