Swiggy workers go on strike in Hyderabad, demand revised charges

Bike rallies and protests were noted outside major restaurants from where more than 100 orders are processed

Hyderabad: Eighty restaurants in the city were affected as delivery executives of Swiggy went on strike.

Restaurants in Gachibowli, Hi-tech, Madhapur, Himayatnagar, Secunderabad, Malkajgiri, Uppal, Mehdipatnam and Tolichowki areas were most affected as maximum food orders are processed from these areas.

An approximate 3,000 delivery executives are on strike and they have decided to continue as their meeting with Swiggy was not fruitful.

Bike rallies and protests were noted outside major restaurants from where more than 100 orders are processed. The delivery executives also stopped third party companies from picking up orders from restaurants.

The Indian federation of app-based transport workers (IFAT) claimed that the Swiggy model of paying low to delivery executives and charging high for delivery charges from customers is hurting them the most. National general secretary of IFAT, Shaik Salauddin, said, “We were called for a meeting at Madhapur police station and the company executives have noted our grievances. We want them to act on them and give us our due.”

The strike is not only hurting the company; delivery executives are losing their earnings. “We want our charges to be revised like earlier times and all of us must be given our due,” said Salauddin.
