Hyderabad: 204 drivers booked for drunken driving
HYDERABAD: In anti-drunken driving operations conducted on Friday and Saturday nights within the Cyberabad limits, 204 drunk drivers and 90 revellers were booked after their Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) was found to be in the range of 51-100. The permissible limit is below 35 BAC.
According to Cyberabad police, most of the people booked were in the age group of 21 to 30 years. “Mostly, youngsters on two-wheelers are resorting to this dangerous activity. Around 145 two-wheeler riders were booked for drinking and driving,” said Cyberabad Traffic Deputy Commissioner of Police S. M. Vijay Kumar.
Drunken driving is one of the major reasons for road accidents. It not only puts the drunken driver at risk but also innocent road users. Most of the cases booked were under Kukatpally Police Station (38 cases) followed by Madhapur (31 cases) and Miyapur (26 cases).
People were found driving drunk on ORR, national highways and residential areas with utter disregard to law and public safety, a police official said.
All the persons will be prosecuted in the court concerned after the mandatory road safety counselling at the Traffic Training Institute, Madhapur. The official said drive against drunken driving and other violations will continue for safety of road commuters.
