Commercialisation of residential layouts: BJP MPs, MLAs to fight people’s cases
BENGALURU: Citizens should register complaints against illegal commercial establishments in residential areas and miscreants creating public nuisance. If BBMP joint commissioners do not act on such complaints, BJP MPs Rajeev Chandrasekhar and P.C. Mohan along with party MLAs will take up citizens’ complaints with the BBMP.
This initiative for governance with accountability is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision that cities are about its citizens and Swachhata Hi Seva movement is to make cities clean and liveable for all, said MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
“It is BBMP’s obligation and responsibility to the citizens that they serve to act decisively and firmly on complaints of illegal activities in residential areas. Residential areas are designed to provide safe, liveable places for Bengalureans and their families. Zoning and other laws and guidelines exist to ensure precisely that. Any commercial activity in residential areas must be legal and must respect and not disturb or disrupt lives of families living there in any way,” he stated.
At a recent meeting presided over by Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, in which Deputy Chief Minister Dr. C.N. Ashwathnarayana, Chief Secretary Vijay Bhaskar and BBMP Commissioner B.H. Anil Kumar were present, the issue of illegal commercialisation was discussed.
Mr Yediyurappa instructed the BBMP to ensure citizen rights and laws. He told the BBMP Commissioner to take immediate strict action on zoning violations in residential areas such as illegal bars, pubs, massage parlours, restaurants and other types of illegal commercial establishments.
Member of Parliament Rajeev Chandrashekar said that if the joint commissioner concerned does not act on such complaints within seven days, a copy of the complaint could be sent to his office at NewBengaluru@rajeev.in. He assured the people that he and his colleague P.C. Mohan besides other party MLAs who represent Bengaluru will follow up each of these cases with the BBMP.
