Adilabad: The unwanted rains that are lashing many parts of the old Adilabad district are causing a financial burden to the cotton farmers since they are diluting the effects of the anti-pest chemicals sprayed on the cotton.
The unwanted rains are forcing cotton farmers to spray additional pesticide to protect the cotton plants from pest attacks.
Cotton farmers complained that there should not be rain for three hours after spraying anti- pests to the cotton crops in the agriculture fields or the pesticide effects are diluted and will not kill the pests that attack the cotton crops.
Farmers say that many times in the recent past, it was raining while they were spraying the pesticide or just within two hours of spraying it. In the process of double-spraying the crops, farmers are forced to spend additional money on expensive pesticides. There is enough moisture content in the soil in the cotton fields and no more rain is needed, they say. However, there was no uniform growth of the cotton plants. In some places, there was good growth of the cotton plants and no growth of cotton plants in some others in old Adilabad district.
This is attributed to the long dry spell and now to continuous rain.
