Telugu states: Ganesha Nimajjanam to be a rainy affair

Weather models have identified a low-pressure area developing over the Bay of Bengal which is likely to intensity by September 18.

Hyderabad: It is likely that the Muharram procession on September 21 and the Ganesha nimajjanam the next day will experience rain with the weather department forecasting that the state will witness rain next week.

The weather bureau said Telangana state and coastal Andhra Pradesh would receive scattered, and at times heavy, rainfall between September 19 and 25. This will probably be the last spell of rain during the southwest monsoon in the Telugu speaking states as the currents begin to withdraw from western India.

The weather department has issued a forecast of rain and thunderstorms, especially towards the evening, for Hyderabad from September 15 to 21.

Weather models have identified a low-pressure area developing over the Bay of Bengal which is likely to intensity by September 18. It will travel in a western direction, causing rainfall over coastal AP, Telangana state and northern Karnataka.

Mr Mahesh Palawat, vice-president, climatology, Skymet, said, “The forecast is for scattered rainfall for September 17. The intensity will increase from September 19 and is likely to prevail up to September 25. Rain and thunderstorm at irregular intervals are forecast for TS and AP. This apart, the southern peninsula will receive rain.”

The state is witnessing a rise in daytime temperatures due to the weak monsoon currents and absence of moisture in the atmosphere. The rain belt has shifted towards north India. A majority of districts in the state were reporting maximum temperatures above their normal.
