Officials told to focus on VIP votes
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Commissioner and district election officer (DEO) M Dana Kishore has instructed booth level officers (BLOs) to focus on VIP votes during the door-to-door electoral verification.
The DEO has observed that there are more than 15,000 voters in 15 constituencies in Hyderabad district and he has asked to verify at least 1,000 VIP voters in each constituency to receive claims and objections if any.
Dana Kishore has directed that election staff must perform their duties and stringent action will be initiated against them as per the Representation of the People Act. He said that it has also been observed that there will be around 1000 VVIP votes in each constituency and the concerned officials should check the names, addresses, photos, etc to ensure transparency.
He said tahsildars had been deployed according to verification officers and a review meeting was conducted to explain the ongoing process of the revision of electoral rolls.
Kishore said till date as many as 6,680 offline claims have been received from the voters in Hyderabad district. While interacting with the officials the DEO said that as per the official data it had been observed there were as many as 1,22,700 deaths reported in Hyderabad, of them about 44,000 deaths have been verified as local residents.
He asked the election officials to conduct a special drive for door-to-door verification and voter deletions had to be taken up in an appropriate manner as per Election Commission of India guidelines.
