Vizagites can apply online for learner's licence test

Can also learn basic tips, best driving practices online.

Visakhapatnam: Vizagites would soon be able to apply for a learner’s licence and learn basic driving tips, model questions on the licence test and the best driving practices online. Road Transport Authority (RTA) is planning to develop a URL which would make it easier for those eager to acquire a driving license in Vizag city.

At present, anyone seeking a learner’s licence needs to visit the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs), fill the application form and then stand before the camera for booking a slot to appear for the computerised learner’s licence test. If an applicant fails to secure 12 out of 20 marks in the test, he or she will have to visit the RTOs again to appear for the objective test.

The RTA has made nearly 80 services online including vehicle registration. The online registration was introduced for the first time in the state in Vizag city around a year back which was then extended to other cities and towns. Under the system, buyers of vehicles from the showroom need not visit the RTOs for registration of the vehicle and getting the number but can get the work done online.

“Now we are planning to introduce the online system for registration for appearing for learner’s licence test,” says Deputy Transport Commissioner S. Venkateswara Rao. The online system would provide facilities such as uploading photo of the applicant, residential address and other details without visiting the RTO, he added

A senior officer with the RTA said that at present they are conceptualising the online project and trying to give it a final shape. “We are also deliberating on what more features can be added to the online service to make it more helpful to applicants. If all goes as per plans, we will introduce the online system within two weeks,” he added.
