RAYAGADA: A tribal man in Rabuguda village under Dhamuni Panga gram panchayat Odisha’s Rayagada district walked nearly four km carrying his ailing wife on the shoulders to reach the community health centre (CHC) at Kalyansinghpur.
Reports said Arjun Karsika of Rabuguda had on Wednesday to carry his wife Ruai (30), who was suffering from fever for last eight days, to the CHC on his shoulders due to lack of road connectivity to the village.
Due to increasing water level in Kalyani river, the villagers are facing many problems as there is no way for them to go out of the village.
Crossing the river is the only way for their transportation. On Wednesday morning, Arjun decided to carry his wife on his shoulder and cross the river to reach the Kalyansinghpur CHC.
“There is no transport from our village. We are not able to take a patient to the nearby hospital. Calling an ambulance will be of no use as there is no way for ambulance to reach the village.
So, I decided to carry her on my shoulder as she was severely ill,” said Arjun. Earlier, a tribal man, along with his 12-year-old daughter, was forced to walk around 10 km carrying his wife’s body on his shoulder as he failed to get a vehicle to transport it from a government hospital in the backward district of Kalahandi where she died.
Dana Majhi had to carry the body of his wife Amang Dei. The incident drew severe criticism from many quarters with Congress and BJP dubbing the BJD government in the state as “anti-tribal”.
