BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday disposed off the petition filed by Manipal University, and three others challenging the Medical Council of India (MCI) decision, dated August 3, 2016, making NEET mandatory for NRI students to get admission for MBBS courses under the NRI quota.
Meanwhile the court, has observed that that the requirement of passing of NEET cannot be dispensed with for admission under NRI quota.
"In view of the amendment brought about in the eligibility criteria under regulation-4 of Graduate Medical Education, 1997, the order has been passed by the Supreme Court and such possible view by Medical Council of India (MCI) cannot be said to be arbitrary," it observed.
In respect of genuine candidates who are already admitted under NRI quota, the court has asked the authorities not to disturb for a period of two weeks with such candidates admitted up to August 25, 2016 .
Bail to Yuva Brigade leader
The High Court on Thursday granted bail plea to Yuva Brigade leader Naresh Shenoy, accused in the murder of RTI activist Vinayak Panduranga Baliga. The victim was hacked to death near his house at Kala Kunj Road, Kodialbail on March 21. Naresh Shenoy has been directed to furnish a personal bond for '2 lakh with two local sureties along with directions to surrender his passport and not to leave the jurisdiction of the local court without prior permission and also mark attendance before the concerned police station every Sunday and also co-operate in the investigation of the case.
