Heavy rains in 4 districts of Hyderabad-Karnataka region, 35-year-old washed away
KALABURAGI: Heavy rains that lashed the four districts of Hyderabad-Karnataka region during the last couple of days, have brought much needed relief to people, especially the farming community.
However, the rains have also caused damage to several bridges and many houses in low lying areas besides washing away the railway track. In Bidar district, Prakash Manik (35), who was differently abled, was washed away on Wednesday night while trying to cross a stream near Udbal village in Humnabad taluk.
The police have launched an operation for recovering his body which has not been traced so far. The incessant rainfall in parts of Telangana and north Karnataka has led to cancellation of several trains on Parli-Hyderabad route via Bidar on Thursday, as reports reaching Bidar confirmed that rain water had flooded the tracks washing away concrete and earthen material beneath them.
According to railway sources, train number 16571 between Yeshvantpur and Bidar was terminated at Vikarabad station and passengers bound to Bidar were ferried in public transport buses to avoid inconvenience. Similarly train number 16594 Link express from Bengaluru to Nanded via Bidar was terminated at Vikarabad.
In Kalaburagi district, vehicular traffic between Kalaburagi and Hyderabad via Sedam has been thrown out of gear due to inundation of the Kagina bridge near Malkhed. Long queues of vehicles were seen lining up on both sides of the river since Thursday morning.
The rains that began on Tuesday morning in Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir and Raichur districts, continued till Wednesday night throwing life out of gear. Kalaburagi district recorded an average of 44.6 mm rainfall on Wedneday. Some of the villages in Aland taluk, which has recorded the highest average rainfall of 68 mm, received more than 100 mm rainfall.
While Kalaburagi taluk recorded 62.4 mm rainfall, , Chincholi taluk recorded 49.9 mm rainfall. The rains have brought much needed relief to the entire farming community.
