Centre saves 1,800 hectare forest land in Hyderabad

The corporation justified its need of the large tract of forests saying that it could not find any contiguous large piece for the project.

Hyderabad: More than 1,800 hectares of forest in Ranga Reddy district were saved from being converted into a recreation zone by the TS tourism development corporation. Its Rs 1,000 crore eco-tourism plan was rejected by the Union environment ministry.

The corporation justified its need of the large tract of forests saying that it could not find any contiguous large piece for the project. The land had natural features required for the eco-tourism project, it said.

The TS forest department suppored the corporation, saying they were degraded forest land, where only “rodents and reptiles live. However, the Centre turned it down.
