Akshay Kumar Now an Indian Citizen, Here's Proof

Akshay Kumar has acquired Indian citizenship, as evidenced by the official government documents he shared on Twitter. Previously a Canadian citizen, this change has garnered attention and praise from his fans.

Sharing the news on Twitter, Akshay posted an image of his Indian citizenship document under the name Akshay Hariom Bhatia. He captioned the tweet, "Dil aur citizenship, dono Hindustani. Happy Independence Day! Jai Hind." Fans congratulated him on the transition and extended Independence Day wishes.

Back in 2019, during a Hindustan Times Leadership Summit, Akshay had expressed his intention to apply for an Indian passport. An update on this matter came three years later in another Leadership Summit session.

Regarding the decision to change citizenship, Akshay clarified, "Having a Canadian passport does not diminish my Indian identity. I am very much an Indian. I have been here for the last nine years since I got that passport." He mentioned the pandemic causing delays but confirmed his intention to complete the process.

He added, "Yes, I had said it in 2019, I applied for it. Then the pandemic happened. After a delay of 2-2.5 years, my renunciation letter has arrived, and soon my new passport will follow. I cannot be held responsible for the pandemic's impact on the timeline."

Moving on to Akshay's professional commitments, his recent release, OMG 2, alongside Pankaj Tripathi, has performed well at the box office, despite strong competition from Gadar 2. Up next, he has the untitled Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru, set to release on September 1, co-starring Radhika Madan and Paresh Rawal.

Additionally, he's set to appear in the action thriller film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan alongside Tiger Shroff, slated for an Eid 2024 release. Akshay will reunite with Riteish Deshmukh for the fifth installment of the Housefull comedy franchise and may also feature in the highly anticipated Hera Pheri 3.
