‘Removal of spl status to J&K discriminatory’

State Assembly. Laws enacted by Parliament cannot be implemented without getting the consent of the assembly,” Mohideen pointed out.

THANJAVUR: “What is the necessity for removing the special status to Kashmir alone?” asked Prof K. M Khader Mohideen, national president of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) here on Thursday.

Speaking to presspersons, he said that many states in India like Nagaland, Mizoram, Tiripura, Himachal Pradesh enjoy special status given by our Constitution. But they continue to enjoy that status while Kashmir has been stripped off that status, he said.

“In Nagaland, people from outside states cannot enter and purchase lands.

Its culture and other benefits cannot be changed without the consent of the

State Assembly. Laws enacted by Parliament cannot be implemented without getting the consent of the assembly,” Mohideen pointed out.

In Kashmir, they say that terrorism was one reason for doing away with
special status. If that is so, in Nagaland also there are Maoist and Naxalite problems. Just because some terrorists did something, there is no need to remove the special status for Kashmir, he argued.

“In Kashmir Muslims are in majority. Majority Muslims in Kashmir consented to live with India where Muslims are minority. This is the specialty of Kashmir,” Mohideen said.

“Our national tricolor has different colours. Like that people of the country have different thoughts, culture tradition etc. But we live together like the tricolor. That is the specialty of this country. Without understanding this, to talk about one culture, one tradition, one language etc will be against this nature of the country,” the IUML leader said.
