OGH gets Rs 19 crore for renovation

The building houses the administrative block and wards on the ground and first floors.

Hyderabad: The state government sanctioned `19 crore to be given to the Osmania General Hospital (OGH) for the renovation and restoration of the old administrative building.

The building is in a poor state and there are constant complaints of portions of the false ceiling and cement flakes falling down due to structural and water leakage issues.

The building houses the administrative block and wards on the ground and first floors. The second and third floors are closed.

OGH superintendent Dr B. Nagendra said, “Tenders will be called and the works will then start.”

In June, health minister Etala Rajender during a visit to the OGH building saw the problems for himself and the facilities required for the campus.

The internal roads on the OGH campus, a pre-fabricated shed for the patients’ relatives and the drainage are in dire need of repairs. An additional `5.27 crore has been sanctioned for this, a senior health official said.

The accommodation of house surgeons close to the old building requires repairs.

The old building has been certified as steady by the experts from the JNTU.

Its maintenance is an issue and overburdening it with too many blocks for patients has led to chaos.

The Osmania General Hospital Joint Action Committee is keen that the old building be restored to its lost glory.
