Land for 15 urban parks identified

The municipal authority has decided to develop parks depicting mini urban forests.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority has decided to construct urban lungs spaces in the municipalities surrounding the city like Boduppal, Peerzadiguda, Medchal, Meerpet, Badangpet, Shadnagar, Sangareddy and others at an estimated cost of `5 crore.

These parks will be modelled on the KBR National Park in Banjara Hills where a small portion of the forest, about 10 per cent or less, will be developed as a garden for the public and the remaining will be kept as conservation zone where the public will not be allowed.

The municipal authority has decided to develop parks depicting mini urban forests. It has decided to develop urban park at Boduppal with an estimated cost of Rs 16 lakh, Peerzadiguda Rs 10 lakh, Medchal Rs 31 lakh, Jillelaguda Rs 15 lakh, Meerpet Rs 18 lakh, Badangpet Rs 18 lakh and Shadnagar Rs 18 lakh.

This apart, the HMDA has proposed to develop lung spaces in Sangareddy, Bhongir and other two regions with an estimated cost of `2 crore.

A senior HMDA official said that the municipal authority has received the proposals from the municipalities to develop the parks.

He said responding to the proposals the HMDA has decided to develop at least 15 parks on priority and identified land for the purpose.

The parks will have a parking area, entry plaza, pathways, mini theme parks, gazebos, visitor amenities like washrooms, drinking water facilities, seating etc., and nature interpretation shed.
