Hyderabad: Residents fish in stagnant water on street in protest of poor roads

Hyderabad: Protesting the bad roads at Prem Nagar, a group of irked residents conducted a mock fishing in the stagnant water on Wednesday. Citizens were aware that public representatives would use this road near Chaitanya Model School road to attend Independence Day programmes and decided to draw their attention by fishing in the stagnant water.

Mr Ahmed Iftekar, the president of Prem Nagar A&B Colony Welfare Association, said, “We wanted to conduct a non-violent protest on Independence Day as we are not getting freedom from bad roads and drainage issues. Our corporator did not care to look at our issue and just went away. But former MLA Bikshapati Yadav said that he would take up the issue immediately.”

Members of the association alleged that despite their repeated requests over the past few years, there has never been a permanent solution.

Another resident, Mr Shaik Ibrahim said, “Some of us took the initiative and paid property tax, but some were not even informed how much to pay. We are close to the posh Hitec City and Kondapur, but our area has been constantly neglected.”

Several times over the past six months, Deccan Chronicle had highlighted the condition of the roads in Prem Nagar.

A GHMC official said, “As the road is not even, water stagnates at the Eidgah. There is a storm water drain where this water is drained. Due to silt and sand, the water is not being drained. We will look into the issue immediately and clear it.”
