Bengaluru: Leopard found shot dead in Hassan

Two veterinarians conducted the necropsy on the carcass.

Hassan: A male leopard was found shot dead at Galipore village in Holenarispura taluk of Hassan on Wednesday. Forest officials who conducted the necropsy on the carcass, reportedly detected injuries on its forehead and three injuries near its ears making it clear that the leopard might have been shot at. The animal is said to have succumbed to its injuries instantly. Official sources said that they found a hole in its head while the posture of the carcass indicates that the leopard was poached.

Forest officials have decided to take the opinion of a ballistic expert in this regard to know the exact cause of death. Leopards are categorised as schedule-1 animals. Two veterinarians conducted the necropsy on the carcass.

Earlier, the carcass of the leopard aged around seven years was discovered in private land belonging to farmer Nagarajaiah at the village by forest officials based on a tip off by people.
