Chennai: Scoring high marks and securing a B.Sc (Agri) seat in Annamalai University, Jai Sunil is unwilling to give up his dream of “participating in Prime Minister Modi's agrarian revolution” though his father cannot afford to pay the fees before the deadline next week.
“I have been told to remit Rs 93,000 by the end of next week. I don't know what to do, how to raise it”, said the 17-year-old, trying hard not to break down.
The son of a poor postal department peon, Sunil just carried on with his dream run through the tenth public when he scored 487/500 despite severe hardship at home and earning a merit seat in a private school for the plus-two, which he passed out this year with 94 per cent marks.
“I have always wanted to do agriculture B.Sc., so that I can be part of the second green revolution that our PM is talking about. I am particularly fond of organic farming. I have dreams of becoming an agriculture scientist who can participate in efforts to alleviate hunger”, said Sunil even as father Babu watched helplessly.
“My son never asked me for fancy dresses, not even decent meals. We somehow managed this far”, Babu said.
