Grand mom Indira Gandhi becomes Amma for Rahul in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday launched 'Indira Canteen' in Bengaluru with the vision of providing good quality of food to the poor at a cheap price.
Speaking at the event, the party vice president again left everyone spellbound with his erroneous speech.
Going with the flow Rahul Gandhi said, “Every single poor person in the city in Bangalore will feel that in the state of Karnataka, under Siddaramaiah govt, I simply cannot go hungry. That is the vision of Amma...err...Indira canteen.”
Rahul, who was delivering the speech in English made another mistake which was unnoticed. Congress vice president was heard as saying the Karnataka Chief Minister will open up canteen on similar lines in ‘every single city in Bangalore.’
Rahul said, “Chief Minister has mentioned to me that Bangalore is just a beginning. He is going to expand this programme to other cities and soon over the next couple of months, every single city in Bangalore.”
Rahul said he was proud that it is the Congress government that conceptualised Indira canteen.
The Congress vice president congratulated Karnataka Government and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for the initiative and said the Indira Canteen is another step towards the "Food for All" commitment of the Congress.
"I would like to thank the chief minister and the Congress party who have conceptualised this programme that is designed to make sure that not a single person in Bengaluru goes hungry," he said.
Highlighting the aim of the canteen, Rahul Gandhi said it will ensure that the poorest and the weakest should not remain hungry.
Breakfast in the Indira canteen will be served at Rs 5 while one will just have to pay ten rupees for lunch and dinner.
A hoarding carrying a picture of former prime minister Indira Gandhi and a young Rahul were also placed outside the canteen.
A total of 101 Indira Canteens, one of Karnataka Government's most ambitious projects to serve affordable food, rolled out on Wednesday.
Karnataka Chief Minister had announced this project when he presented the budget on March 15, this year.
