11-year-old dies: Kin lay siege to hospital citing negligence

Family members said that the girl began to recover and was fine until Monday night; however, her condition worsened suddenly on Tuesday.

Salem: Parents and relatives of an 11-year-old girl, who died of ‘mysterious’ fever besieged the private hospital alleging medical negligence in Salem on Tuesday.

Jeevitha, 11, daughter of Kandasamy and Mallika from Kakkapalayam and studying class six at a private school in Attayampatty was admitted with severe fever at a private hospital at Kondalampatty on August 8.

Family members said that the girl began to recover and was fine until Monday night; however, her condition worsened suddenly on Tuesday morning.

“She developed breathlessness, but there were no doctors to attend her emergency. Only a trainee doctor came after a long time and administered an injection. Then the girl died in a short time,” said the protesting family members.

Alleging that the hospital’s negligence had caused her death, parents and family member’s gheraoed the hospital, by parking the ambulance, which had the body of the girl in the front. They, however, had withdrawn the protest after police arrived and held talks promising action.
