Telangana government yet to give martyr's wife job
Hyderabad: The wife of constable Chegondi Nagaraju, named for the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry on Sunday, said that though she lost her husband, she felt proud that he had given his life for the people.
A day after he was named for the gallantry medal posthumously, Ms Rani along with her in-laws and relatives paid floral tributes to his bronze statue at his native village on Monday.
Ms Rani, 22, a pharmacy graduate, said that the government had promised her a job as a junior assistant but nothing had happened on that front.
She said that as the family had lost its only support, she wanted to take up the responsibility of the family and take care of his parents. “I want to serve people in the best way I can, but I need the government’s support for this,” Ms Rani said.
Nagaraju’s parents Srimannarayana and Laxmamma, who are farmers, are not able to work. She said that the family was yet to come out of the trauma.
“The government recognising his services to the people and choosing him for the medal is a relief for us. It will encourage many youths to take up public service.” Ms Rani said.
On June 8, the villagers unveiled a bronze statue of Nagaraju at his native village Aitipamula to mark his first death anniversary.
Nagaraju and Atmakur sub-inspector Dudekula Siddaiah were killed in an exchange of fire with terror suspects in Nalgonda on April 4, 2015.
