Kakinada: The Supreme Court former Judge Eswaraiah has said a detailed scientific census to study the status of Backward Classes should be held across the country. “This should be the central agenda for BCs,” he said.
Participating as chief guest at the ‘BCs Atma Gourava Sabha (BCs’ self-respect meeting) here on Sunday, Eswaraiah said, “The demand for BC reservations can be achieved only after a caste census of BCs is undertaken.”
Political parties have rejected the BC Census and the parties have not fought for the rights of BCs. Every BC should make use of his voting right, granted to all citizens by the Indian Constitution. Vote is a weapon to the BCs to achieve our rights.”
The former minister and Rajya Sabha member said Chief Minister Jagan Reddy made an attempt to hold the BC census but the high court has given a stay on it. It was as per the Supreme Court guidelines, Jagan provided reservations to the BCs.
He suggested that former minister of Puducherry Malladi Krishnarao should lead the movement for increasing BC reservations in jobs, studies etc. “In the past, Krishna Rao was insulted by some political leaders in Kakinada and the BCs would not keep silent if such acts recurred, he said.
Malladi said BCs should not live as slaves, but live with self-respect and lead the politicians and parties.
Late chief minister YSR’s statue would be installed at Yanam. Former Kakinada MLA Vanamadi Venkateswara said there should be a special law for BCs’ protection.
