Thiruvananthapuram: Public Service Commission denies favour to student leaders
THIRUVANANTHPAURAM: The internal vigilance wing of the Public Service Commission will examine the allegations against three SFI leaders who had secured ranks in the recent examination conducted by the commission for recruitment to the Kerala Armed Police Battalion 4. The three, Sivarenjith, P.P. Pranav and A.N. Nass-em, are accused in the murder attempt on Akhil, University College student, on Friday. Sivaren-jith is the first rank holder in the examination.
At a press conference here on Monday, commission chairman M.K. Sak-eer denied the allegations that the accused had managed to get the centre of their choice for writing the test.
Earlier, there were allegations that they secured ranks after they were given special treatment, allowed to take exams in the University College centre and given all facilities. Since the allegations had posed a big question mark on the credibility of the commission, the chairman said senior officials examined the examination details at length.
He said there was no evidence of the three getting any favour. Sivarenjith with registration number 555683 opted for Thiruvananthapuram and got Government UPS Vanchiyoor, Attingal, as exam centre. P.P. Pranav, second rank holder with registration No, 552871 opted for Cheriyankeez-hu taluk and got the centre at Sree Gokulam Pub-lic School, Mamam, Atti-ngal. A.N. Nassem with registration No. 529103 was allotted Government College of Teachers’ Education, Thycaud.
Mr Sakeer said that while publishing the rank list, the commission cannot check the criminal antecedents of the rank holders by contacting each police station and sending an inquiry commission.
The rank list preparation is an advisory function, he added. There were attempts to question the credibility of the commission through propaganda, he pointed out.
The Commission chairman has directed the vigilance wing to complete the inquiry and submit the report within a month. All further proceedings about the appointment of the accused would be kept in abeyance till the submission of inquiry report.
