Kalpetta: A pedestrian and a bike rider got killed when the bike hit the pedestrian in Sulthan Bathery Sunday night.

The police identified the bike rider as Amal Stephen, 22, son of Kochukudiyil Stephen, and the pedestrian, Saidhul Islam, 26, a native of Poonda, Sonapoor, Assam.

The mishap occurred at Ammayippalam on the Sulthan Bathery-Thaloor road towards 10 pm. Mr Stephen, employed in Ernakulam, had returned after his father Stephen went to Israel on a job.

He was returning after visiting his cousin admitted hospitalised in Sulthan Bathery.

Mr Islam was crossing the road. Both of them were thrown away, but people failed to find the Assamese as he fell into drainage. By the time someone found him almost an hour later, it was too late.

Though the people gathered rushed Mr Stephen to the hospital, their efforts too went in vain.

He leaves mother Shanti and only sister Ameesha. The last rites would be held on Wednesday after his father returns from Israel.

Mr Islam had been working here as a daily labourer for eight years. Moves are afoot to take his body to his native place, Ambalavayal police said.
