Kozhikode: Calicut University vice-chancellor Dr K Mohammed Basheer inaugurated a seminar on “Shaik Zainuddin Makhdoom and Indian Naval Strategy” on the campus Monday.

Organised by the department of Arabic in association with Malabar Institute of Science and Research, Vadakara, the seminar shed light on the maritime strategies of the era.

“Tuhfat Ul Mujahideen, written by Zainuddin Makhdoom II was a manifesto against the foreigner’s colonial discipline," former VC and historian, K. K. N. Kurup, said delivering the keynote address at the seminar.

“Makhdoom turns out to be a transcending writer with his 400 years long foresightedness as he had written that when Arabian Sea losses its freedom, Indians will be enslaved. His writings inspired the natives for anti-imperial resistance.”

Zamorin K. C. Unni Anujan Raja was honoured in connection with the seminar.

Prof P. K. Mohan, the pro-VC, presided over the seminar.
