KT Rama Rao says after winning 2019 elections, focus on urban infrastructure

Minister goes live on Twitter, answers questions by netizens.

Hyderabad: IT minister K.T. Rama Rao admitted that the government could have done a better job of fixing Hyderabad’s roads in the last four years.
He said that after winning the 2019 elections the major focus will be on improving urban infrastructure.

Taking to Twitter, one Bandaru Soumith told Mr Rama Rao that he is contributing to pothole deaths and asked him to take a ride on a bike to experience the SRDP magic. Mr Rao replied that he is equally concerned about the roads.

Responding to another complaint about Hyderabad’s roads and drainage system, he wrote, “It’s an incessant endeavour.”
Mr Rama Rao went live on Twitter using the #AskKTR tag on Sunday and answered questions posed by netizens. From his choice of street food to favourite TV series, local and national politics to sports, he answered a wide range of questions. He responded to more than 100 questions posted on Twitter while deflected many questions related to civic issues.

Sunny Reddy tweeted, “We don’t need Karimnagar to be London. All we need is very basic development.” While he is “working on it”, among his portfolios Mr Rama Rao enjoys urban development as “it is challenging and therefore more engrossing”.

IT and municipal affairs minister K T Rama Rao dismissed reports that he was contesting from the Serilingampally seat and reiterated that he will stick to Sircilla, from where he has been elected thrice.

A Twitter user, Kaali Sudheer, asked him to contest from Serilingampally or Jubilee Hills constituencies, which are best suited to him. Mr Rama Rao replied, "Siricilla people have elected me thrive (thrice) now. I will be loyal to them.".

During this question and answer session, Mr Rama Rao answered several questions on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s governance, the Congress, the BJP and Left parties. He declared that he is not satisfied with the BJP or the Modi government even in other states. He advised a user, Ram Babu, who was undecided between Modi and KCR to stop striking a balance: "Choose wisely and vote for KCR", Mr Rama Rao tweeted.

Gaddam Madhusudhan asked, "Do you think Our Country is forgetting the words “SOCIALIST and SECULAR" from the Premable (Preamble) while our Central government is trying to stalinizng the Hinduthva Agenda on the democratic people of India" (sic). Mr Rama Rao replied, "It depends on who people choose to serve them".

To a question on the internal conflict in the Telangana Congress, Mr Rama Rao said that he wants the Congress leaders to fight among themselves.

His opinion on Left politics, is “People left them long back". When asked about his plans to foray into national politics, he said, "You can’t plan for national politics."

He said his party is ready for elections even if it is simultaneous polls. After winning the 2019 elections the major focus will be on urban infrastructure improvement.

When asked by a user, Nagarjuna, if he will compete from Andhra Pradesh in 2024 as many youngsters want him, Mr Rama Rao said, "Who knows what future has in store." He added that he is expecting to win all 12 seats in the Congress bastion of Nalgonda.

K. Sudheer Reddy asked how many seats the TRS will win. "More than what’s needed to form the government with a simple majority," the minister replied. He said he plans to "win the next elections handsomely."

While stating that his father’s vision on irrigation projects is comprehensive and grand, he claimed that KCR will be the next Chief Minister of Telangana. He said that Rythu Bandhu is the best scheme by the TRS government and when asked if the amount of Rs 8,000 is sufficient, he said it is something no one has done in 71 years of independent India.

When a fan from Chennai, Sumanth Awais, asked him to be Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, he replied that it may be difficult for him to be that.
