Hyderabad: It is a dangerous drive at Bolarum check post

The deep curves on the roads are not marked by cautionary boards.

Hyderabad: Due to the lack of a traffic signal, commuters are facing a lot of difficulties while travelling past the Bolarum check post, which is on the National Highway between Hyderabad and Karimnagar. There are no speed breakers to slow down vehicles since it is a National Highway.

Mr Balakrishna Rao, a resident of Bolaram, said, “Everyone wants to reach their destinations at the earliest. In the process, they block vehicles coming from the opposite direction, resulting in a traffic jam. Only after a traffic policeman comes can the traffic jam be cleared.”

Mr Mohanji, headmaster of a government primary school at Bolarum, said, “It is one of the main stretches and vehicles travel at high speeds. It is one of the dangerous stretches where you can find at least five curves. It makes things difficult for the driver.” “On an average there are at least six minor accidents on this stretch,” he said. There are no signboards to warn drivers of deep curves.

“Two months ago there was a major accident at the deep curve when a car rammed into a bike and the rider died on the spot,” said check post employee Naresh.

His colleague Ramulu, who has been working here for the past 20 years, said, “During peak hours it is very difficult to manage the traffic. It takes at least an hour to cross the check post from 9 am to 10 am and 5 pm to 7 pm.”

When the Chief Minister’s convoy passes on the stretch on the way to his farmhouse at Gajwel, the situation worsens.

Asked about the option of installing a traffic signal at Bolarum, traffic inspector Hasibullah Khan said, “It has been sanctioned. We will be installing it within a month.”

When asked about the traffic sign boards issue Mr Khan said, “We will give only suggestions, it is the responsibility of the GHMC to put up the boards.”
