Hyderabad: Fewer RTC buses to ply on Metro Rail corridors
Hyderabad: In an effort to improve connectivity to the interiors of the city and enhance last mile connectivity from Metro Rail stations, the routes of some TSRTC buses are being altered.
The frequency of TSRTC buses running along the Metro Rail corridor will be reduced. These buses are being re-oriented to cater to the demand for new routes after metro rail became operational last year.
The routes of about 50 buses have been changed on the Miyapur-Nagole corridor. This is not just to cater to the last mile connectivity but to address the demands of interior areas where metro is not operational. Officials are working on changing the routes of bus services on the Metro Rail corridor gradually.
The TSRTC runs around 3,500 buses across Hyderabad and officials confirmed that there won’t be any reduction in the number of buses, but routes will be changed.
Mr Sunil Sharma, principal secretary, transport, roads and buildings, said, “The number of buses will be same but the routes are being changed according to demand. We are trying to re-orient and not reduce. We have observed change in demand and have re-oriented about 50 buses and more buses will be re-oriented in future”.
Even HMRL officials categorically denied that the buses will be reduced or cancelled completely in the areas where Metro Rail connectivity is available. This reorientation in bus services will continue in the future too.
This is being done gradually to ensure that existing commuters do not face any inconvenience.
Evidently, the wait will be longer if your means of transport from Miyapur to Nagole is a bus. Officials did not divulge the details on the routes that are being reoriented yet. On an average, 80,000 people take the Metro Rail each day and the patronage will increase as the plan is put into action.
