Vizag cops to take the e-way

ADCP (Traffic) K Mahendra Patrudu said that traffic cops will use the gadgets very soon in the city.

Vizag: After much delay, Vizag police is tapping technology to facilitate cashless payment for traffic violations.

No traffic police will collect cash (fine) anywhere in the city and motorists can now pay fine for violations traffic rules by swiping their credit or debit cards on the spot.

City traffic police have procured a total of 40 I-pads with 4G Internet connection, handheld blue-tooth printers and hand-held M-swipe machines to generate the traffic challans and accept card payment from motorists.

ADCP (Traffic) K Mahendra Patrudu said that traffic cops will use the gadgets very soon in the city.

“The I-Pads that are connected to the police database will instantly give the previous history of the violator whenever the police enter the vehicle registration numbers or driving licence of the motorist, who caught for traffic violations. If the motorist had not paid the challan in the previous case, the police officer is empowered to seize his vehicle on the spot,” he added.

Police sources said that the reason behind the introduction of card payment for traffic violations is to issue the challans to the violators and collect the fine on the spot and to fish out the pending challans of the motorists.

They feel new system may strengthen the e-challan system through the cashless way, as majority of the motorists who received traffic e-challans are not making the payments.

The new system may also help the cops to identify the stolen vehicles and violators have little chance to evade the traffic fines, said ACP (Traffic) K Prabhakar.
