Tiger poaching threat high in Nallamala forest
KURNOOL: In the wake of Red Alert issued in Nagarjuna Sagar Tiger Reserve (NSTR) over the incidence of Haryana’s predatory tribe Bawariya in and around Atmakur area, divisional forest officer Selvam said that a continuous vigil was still maintained. He said that “we have reliable information that the Bawaria gang has advanced into forest areas near Tirupati and was monitored continuously.”
The divisional forest officer said that Nallamala forest has high degree of poaching threat. He said that all the forest range officers and other sub staff has been pressed into round-the-clock vigil to intensify patrolling in the peripheral areas in the tiger reserve and adjoining forest divisions and check for this gang from Haryana.
Mr Selvam said that Bawaria gangs are ruthless, organised and disgusting. Bawariya members are also involved in cases of poaching. In March this year, a Bawariya member was arrested from the Haridwar-Nazibabad Highway carrying five tiger pelts and bones.
