Teynampet police station attack: No arrest yet
Chennai: More than 60 hours have passed since petrol bombs were hurled at Teynampet police station. No arrests have been made yet even as police have increased the number of special teams investigating the case.
Bike-borne miscreants had hurled two petrol bombs at the Teynampet police station during the early hours of Thursday (July 13). Teynampet police station is in the heart of the city with several important establishments, including the US Consulate and Poes garden within a 2 km radius.
While the impact of the attack is almost negligible as there was no damage to property or persons in the intended attack, the brazenness to attack a police station at the heart of the city and the subsequent turn of events have posed questions about police efficacy, expectedly from the opposition parties.
The police are carrying out intensive enquiries with one of them since his appearance ‘matched’ with that of a miscreant spotted in the video. The suspect, whose picture, a grainy grab from a CCTV footage was released by the police has now been let off after investigations, police said.
Two arrested for hurling petrol bombs at realtor’s office
While the cops are having a tough time in identifying the miscreants who intended damage at one of their properties, they made quick inroads in a similar attack in Perungalathur on Saturday.
Four persons were arrested within five hours of the attack, police said.
The accused, A. Jebasekar (35), S. Pandian (21), S. Manikandan (23) and S. Satish (25) had hurled a petrol bomb at a realtor's office here. Around 11 am, the quartet had flung the petrol bomb at a realtor, Isacc Raj's office on Annai Street, Pudhu Perungalathur and fled the scene.
