Property registration tied to Aadhaar
Hyderabad: Can Aadhaar come to the rescue of genuine property buyers and sellers and save them from scamsters? The Stamps and Registration Department on Saturday started a trial run of a new system of property registration that is integrated with Aadhaar data. The new system has been put in place to check property registration frauds like multiple registrations and impersonation, which has become a menace in all districts as land prices boom.
Sub-registrar offices are being equipped with the technology required for the system. Under the new system, property buyers and sellers and even witnesses to these transactions have to give their Aadhaar details and fingerprints for property registration. These fingerprints are checked against the Aadhaar database, and property transaction registrations will go through only if the fingerprints match.
If genuine property buyers and sellers suffer problems on account of technical glitches, however, they can submit other details, such as PAN card, driving licence, etc., to prove their identity to the sub-registrar, who can go ahead with the registration after verifying the details. The officer will be liable, however, if any irregularity is found later.
