Movie hero in dock for degrading' jallikattu bull

Bull owners want Rs 10 lakh compensation.

Tiruchy: Owners who have nurtured the famed yet-to-be-tamed jallikattu bull, 'Komban' seem all set for locking horns with Kollywood, taking serious objections to their bull being depicted in deprecated manner in actor Vijay Sethupathy-starrer's upcoming Tamil film, Karuppan .

The movie trailer purportedly showing Vijay Sethupathy ‘taming’ the renowned bull 'Komban', which in real life has remained invincible so far in the hundreds of 'jallikattu' events the animal has taken part in various parts of Tamil Nadu, has enraged and shocked Kathan and his family. They say the 'misleading' film depiction has deeply hurt them.

In fact, Kathan, who is secretary of the Tiruchy district unit of 'Tamil Nadu Veera Vilayattu Jallikattu Peravai', said he has served legal notice to three film industry personalities including actor Vijay Sethupathy, A.M. Rathnam, owner of Sairam Creations that has produced this film, and its director, A. Panneerselvam, demanding an apology and a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for showing their favourite bull 'Komban' in such a 'degrading' fashion.

The bull, said Kathan has been nurtured by his family right from its calf days and family members including his mother have 'fond memories' of seeing the calf grow into a full-fledged bull and then winning several prizes in jallikattu events and defending its untamed status so far with pride. But in the movie, Vijay Sethupathy is shown as 'taming' the bull 'Komban', that depicts the animal in an adversarial light, he said.

"Even recently, some interested persons approached the family and wanted us to sell the bull for Rs 10 lakh, but we firmly said no to the offer," says N. Saravanan, cousin of Kathan. The bull is so much part of their family and has been a continuous winner that such wrongful depictions in the trailer and those circulated in social media "is shocking", added Saravanan.

It was not the money that mattered, the duo asserted and wanted the three film personalities to explain on what basis they have shown their bull in a "degrading manner' and express regret for their act.
