Chennai: Traffic Ramaswamy threatens to end life
Chennai: Traffic came to a standstill on Esplanade road at Parry's on Saturday after social activist ‘Traffic’Ramasamy (85) threatened suicide from atop a tall building in protest against “corrupt politicians and police”.
He was on fast since morning outside his office before climbing up the three-storey building. The famous PIL activist demanded the release of the 10 protesters jailed for agitating against ONGC project in Kathiramangalam. Ramasamy also demanded the arrest of some senior politicians from the ruling party and top police officers over allegations against them.
“There is no reason to live in Tamil Nadu and India as there is no real democracy and justice. Both the state and Centre are fully corrupt. While innocent persons in Kathiramangalam were arrested for fighting for their livelihood, no action has been taken against the corrupt bigwigs in spite of FIR against them,” Ramasamy told reporters during his ‘suicide’ protest.
The bare-chested octogenarian was forcibly brought down by the police and rescue personnel around 6 pm after a two-hour ordeal in which activists' assistants and cops made futile attempts to pacify him. They left the screaming angry man in his office.
