Hyderabad: SHE teams will hold sessions in 49 colleges

Ms Lakra emphasised on the need for awareness programmes and teaching girls self-defence techniques.

Hyderabad: SHE teams will hold interactive sessions in 49 colleges in the north zone, covering about 39,000 students. At the first programme held at Kasturba Women’s College, it was found that few students were had downloaded the Hawkeye app.

“Almost all students have internet-enabled smartphones which they use for entertainment purposes. Girls should know that their mobiles can protect them from danger.” said North Zone DCP B. Sumathi. The session, attended by about 2,000 students, was inaugurated by additional commissioner of police (Crimes and SIT) Swati Lakra. It was aimed at creating awareness among students about their safety, SHE teams and Hawkeye.

Ms Lakra emphasised on the need for awareness programmes and teaching girls self-defence techniques. She said that any incident of harassment should be immediately reported to the police, so that other girls can be saved. “Without a complaint, police can’t help them,” she said.
