Bengaluru: 13-hour-old baby girl stolen from Vani Vilas hospital

The hospital staff had handed over the baby to Heena Devi at around 1 pm as they had to provide some treatment to Rekha.

Bengaluru: An unidentified woman, likely in her 30s and wearing a red sweater, whisked away a newborn female baby from Vani Vilas Hospital, barely 13 hours after the delivery, on Friday.

According to the police, the mother of the newborn, Rekha, 24, along with her mother Heena Devi, residents of Babusabpalya and native of Rajasthan, had come to the hospital and got admitted on July 12 afternoon. Rekha delivered a baby girl on July 13 at 11 am, the police said.

The hospital staff had handed over the baby to Heena Devi at around 1 pm as they had to provide some treatment to Rekha. Heena Devi along with baby was sitting outside the labour ward where some other women too were sitting. A woman started a conversation with Heena Devi. As Heena Devi had to use the restroom, she requested the stranger to hold the baby for a while until she returns.

However when Heena Devi returned both the woman and the baby were missing. She went around the hospital searching for them and enquired with many people but in vain. She then informed her daughter and the doctors at Vani Vilas Hospital. She later went to Victoria Out Post police station to lodge a complaint.
