Government Not Just Building Houses but Erecting New Villages and Towns: CM Jagan
Vijayawada: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy formally handed over 8912 Tidco houses, costing ₹800 crore from the exchequer, to the beneficiaries at a public event on Friday. Notably, these were built in a single layout of 77 acres in Gudivada municipal limits.
Stated the Chief Minister, “The government is not simply building these houses. It is constructing new villages, towns and colonies with basic infrastructure. The Maha Yagnam (Mega Penance) of constructing the habitations will continue unabated.”
Addressing a huge public meeting here before transferring the ownership of these houses to the beneficiaries, the Chief Minister said the government is fulfilling one of its major promises -- of handing over the 300sq-ft Tidco houses to the beneficiaries for a token payment of ₹1 each from them.
Adjacent to the Tidco houses, 7728 house sites have been allotted to the poor, in an area of 178.63 acres. Construction of 4,500 houses is in progress in the Jagananna colony, which would settle around 16, 240 families.
“Across the state, the government is giving away the 300-square feet Tidco houses to 1,43,600 beneficiaries @ ₹1 each. The government is spending ₹9,406 crore for this. You must note that the Telugu Desam government had asked similar beneficiaries to pay ₹3,000 per month for 20 years,” Jagan Mohan Reddy said.
The Chief Minister sanctioned 4,200 houses for the poor under the Navaratnalu-Pedalandariki Illu in addition to the 8,859 houses already sanctioned in Gudivada constituency, making it a total of 13,145 houses.
He disclosed that an expenditure of ₹1,782 crore is being incurred in Gudivada constituency alone on house sites for the homeless, construction of Jagananna colonies and Tidco houses.
Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “While Chandrababu Naidu didn’t give even a single cent of land to the poor during his rule, we distributed 30.60 lakh house site pattas to women from all sections in the last four years. We did so while the construction of 21 lakh houses under the government scheme for the homeless was in progress.”
A wealth of at least ₹ 2 lakh crore is transferred into the hands of women. Each of them would possess property worth ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh. “Construction of houses will be taken up in 17,000 colonies across the state,” he said.
The Chief Minister said the government was providing a subsidy of ₹ 4,626 crore on the construction of Tidco houses while paying ₹25,000 and ₹ 50,000 as upfront payment on each of the houses of 365 square feet and 430 square feet houses respectively.
In response to an appeal from Gudivada MLA Kodali Nani, the Chief Minsiter sanctioned ₹5 crore for an SC burial ground, ₹17crore for the Bandar-Mudinepally master plan road, ₹ 45 crore for land acquisition for a drinking water project and ₹ 9.5crore for internal roads in the Jagananna colony.
Jagan Mohan Reddy also the laid foundation stones for a drinking water project worth ₹ 160 crore and developmental works worth ₹ 26 crore in Gudivada municipality.
Earlier, the CM viewed the Tidco houses, interacted with beneficiaries and their family members and offered new clothes along with mangoes and bananas in a traditional manner of Gruha Pravesam to two families.
Krishna district collector Raja, Gudivada MLA Kodali Nani and minister A. Suresh also addressed the public meeting.
