Hyderabad: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has empowered the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to levy environmental compensation on factories, which are not complying with the guidelines of the Environment Protection Act.
In a judgment, the NGT said the polluting industries are liable to make the payment of environmental compensation for the pollution caused by them under the “Polluter to Pay” principle.
Mr M. Praneeth Kumar from Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) said, “the recent notification by Central Pollution Control Board is binding on all industries in the state”.
