On Thursday night the dump yard caught fire triggering panic among residents. The dump yard was situated near a petrol pump and INOX air separation plant which provides liquid oxygen to over 74 hospitals and medical care institutions.

The fire department personnel were on their toes to control the fire along with officials of Bahour commune panchayat, Appreciating their efforts, the Lt Governor said that the timely intervention by fire department, INOX officials and Commune Commisioner of Bahour prevented a disaster.

To avoid any such situations the Lt Governor said that instead of dumping waste at the same place, the garbage will be treated in their areas. “Professional agencies will be engaged to treat it from Central funds,” said Ms Bedi. Women self help groups will be trained by Nabard and corporate social responsibility funds will be considered by INOX for expediting awareness and training to avert any repeat of such fire accidents.

“The Commune Commisioner and area Block Development Officer will start the awareness drive without delay. The full transition to decentralisation is expected to be complete by August-end,” said Ms Bedi.
