Telangana: Centre clears Kaleswaram barrage
Hyderabad: In a major boost, the Centre on Thursday cleared forest land issues related to the prestigious Kaleswaram barrage, paving the way for the state government to pursue work on the project.
The Chief Minister’s Office said it had received a communication that the Union environment ministry has accorded clearances for making use of 7,920 acres of forest land as a part of the Kaleswaram project. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Centre’s forest department advisory committee on Thursday in New Delhi.
The state government had earlier requested the Centre for forest clearances to build barrages, tunnels, canals and as well as reservoirs including Mallannasagar. Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao personally made efforts to obtain the clearances, resulting in the Centre responding quickly. Mr Rao expressed happiness at securing the clearance and complimented the irrigation and forest officials for their efforts in following up the issue with the Centre.
