Tamil Nadu to give Dream Teacher' award
CHENNAI: To promote the government school teachers who are using innovative methods to teach the students, the state on Thursday announced setting up of a “Dream Teacher” award.
School Education Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan said six teachers in each of 32 districts will be selected for the award which carries Rs 10,000 cash prize and citation.
He also said, “Teachers from government schools will be selected for the award based on various tasks like using computers for teaching, excelling in imparting co-curricular activities and school management.”
Likewise, the government will also institute “Innovative School” award. “The government schools with more enrollment, better learning achievement and innovative teaching methods and fulfilling all the basic facilities will be chosen for the award. In each district four schools, primary, middle high and higher secondary schools will be selected for the award,” he said.
For primary and middle schools the award carries Rs 1 lakh and citation. The high and higher secondary schools will be given Rs 2 lakh cash prize.
Further, the government will send 100 students annually on a foreign trip, to encourage those with special skills in various subjects including science and arts, he announced.
