Miyapur land scam: T Harish Rao picks up the shield

Minister defends TRS against Opposition attack over Miyapur.

Hyderabad: Irrigation minister T. Harish Rao on Thursday put forth a strong defence of the state government, challenging the Congress and other Opposition parties to explain what the scam in the Miyapur land deals was and also provide proof of the involvement of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s family as being alleged.

The minister also warned that the government will not hesitate to release names of Opposition leaders involved in various scams and threatened to share that information with the media soon.

Addressing a media conference here on Thursday, Mr Harish Rao said that all that the Opposition has done was hold photo sessions at Miyapur and level baseless allegations.

“What is it that you have explained about the scam? What is the scam? Who has done it and how? You have not explained all this. You have also not released a single documentary proof on the so-called involvement of the Chief Minister’s family members. You are just making noise. I challenge you to bring out any facts related to the scam,” Mr Rao told the Opposition.

He said jagir lands during the Nizam’s rule have been taken over by the government a long time ago by paying compensation.

Subsequently, some persons claimed that these lands belonged to them and made attempts to get them registered in their names and some even tried to sell the lands.

“This all happened during Congress and Telugu Desam rules. Why did the then governments not take any action? Why is the Opposition pointing at us now, as if we have done everything,” Mr Harish Rao said.

He also blamed the ‘anywhere registration’ facility that was created by the previous government.

“The Chief Minister has decided to revamp the entire registration department and also the process of registration. He has also cancelled the ‘anywhere registration’ facility,” Mr Harish Rao said.

He demanded that PCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, who alleged involvement of the Chief Minister’s family, should prove his allegations with documentary proof now, “or else he should be prepared to offer unconditional apology to the Chief Minister and also rub his nose on Abids crossroads in full public view.”
