Hyderabad: Kompally road turns dangerous

The stretch from Suchitra to Medchal has seen major development in the last few years.

HYDERABAD: The Kompally stretch connecting Suchitra and Medchal has seen an increase in the number of road accidents. The primary reasons are speeding and drunk driving, said officials. About 80 per cent of the accidents occur while commuters cross these parallel roads, they said.

Poor infrastructure is also an important factor for accidents. Potholes, uneven roads, lack of speed limit boards and steep turns have led to accidents on this stretch.

Mr Bipin Saxena, a resident, said, “On the way to Maisamaguda on the Kompally stretch there is an 'S' curve where a large number of accidents have been reported. The traffic load in this area has increased due to the many engineering colleges that are located here.”

The stretch from Suchitra to Medchal has seen major development in the last few years. Various educational institutions, resorts, theme parks, restaurants and dhabas have come up here. Several residential colonies too have come up.

“Initiatives have been taken by GHMC to put up signals at various junctions and usage of service roads has been encouraged to make it convenient to regulate traffic”, said Traffic DCP A. Srinivas.

“Random checks for drunken driving are been done on weekends, which is leading to reduction in related accidents. Fencing has been put up all along the road from Suchitra to Kompally and also a small pathway has been made for the pedestrians to walk and cross the road”, Mr Srinivas added.
