Three killed in air-conditioner explosion at Tindivanam

Chennai: Three members of a family were charred to death due air-conditioner explosion at Kaveripakkam, Tindivanam.

An electrical short circuit is believed to be the cause of the explosion.

The incident which occurred at around 3 am on Wednesday(May 15, 2019) claimed the lives of Raji(60), his wife Kala (52) and their son Goutham (24).

The Tindivanam police say the condenser of the split AC exploded due to an electrical short circuit and the fire then spread to the objects in the room. The victims could not escape the fire as the room door was closed. They were burnt to death.

Officials from the fire and rescue services, Tindivanam rushed to the spot, after being alerted by the neighbours. They put out the fire and retrieved the bodies of the deceased which was then sent to the Government Medical College and Hospital at Mundiyampakkam for post-mortem.

The other two members of the family- Raji's elder son, Govardhan(28) and his wife Deepa Gayathri(24) who were sleeping in the adjacent room escaped unhurt. A case has been filed with Tindivanam police. Further investigations are on.
