NIA probe into former PMK functionary murder questioned

Ismali also alleged that NIA is acting like the agent of BJP government at the Centre.

Thanjavu: While insisting that the guilty should be punished for murder of Ramalingam, former PMK town secretary of Thirubuvanam on February 5, Popular Front of India (PFI) has raised doubts about the way investigation is done by National Investigating Agency (NIA).

M. Mohamed Ismali, PFI state president told presspersons at Kumbakonam on Wednesday that the way investigation is conducted raises doubts that it may lead to religious clash.

In the affidavit filed in court, NIA had stated that there is involvement of PFI. But NIA has said this in many cases. In the end, they withdrew accusation as there is no truth in them, Ismail alleged.

“NIA is an investigating agency. It should not come to a conclusion that murder was done by x y or z; PFI is not justifying the murder. We also want guilty should be punished,” Ismail said.

He also alleged that the way NIA conducted investigation in houses of innocents in Kumbakonam, Karaikal, Tiruchy and also in houses where there are male persons and seizing their pan cards, 'Aadhaar' cards and 'sim' cards is not proper and is regrettable.

"Jayalalithaa at the Chief Ministers meeting held in 2012 demanded dissolving investigating agencies like NIA. She said that available investigating agencies can be amalgamated. NIA like agencies will only increase central government's interference, Jayalalithaa said" alleged Ismail.

He also alleged that NIA is acting like the agent of BJP government at the Centre.

It may be recalled Ramalingam was murdered by some unidentified persons on the night of February 5. The murder followed his heated argument on issues like religious conversion with some Muslim persons in the morning at Thirubuvanam. The police registered cases against 16 persons and arrested 11 persons, includng a member of the PFI. The NIA took up the investigation following demand from local BJP leaders.
