KOZHIKODE: The police on Wednesday rescued a three-year-old boy, who had sustained burn injuries, from the custody of his mother and her lover who were living in a rented house at PM Kutty Road in the city.

The woman, Sulaikha, 30, and her lover Althaf, 26, were taken into custody and the boy was admitted to Beach Government General Hospital, Kozhikode. Later in the evening, they were handed over to a police team from Palakkad, where a case had been registered earlier. The woman's husband Subair Ali of Selvapuram, Coimbatore, had filed a complaint at Palakkad south police station on April 27 after Sulaikha, along with her child, eloped with her lover Althaf, who hails from Noorani, Vennakkara, EMS Nagar, Palakkad.

Since then, they were staying in Kozhikode. Later, Subair Ali located them and informed the police.

The mother in her statement to the Nadakkavu police said that the injuries on her child were due to an accident that occurred on Tuesday and not because he was ill-treated.

According to the police, the mother submitted medical certificates and related documents of his treatment at Government Medical College, Kozhikode.
The Nadakkavu police didn't register any case as there weren't any complaints about abusing the child and because the injuries were caused by an accident.
