Hyderabad: The Khajaguda elevated corridor, which was essentially planned to ease the traffic snarls in IT Corridors, has been in cold storage for almost a year now.
The project was aimed to ease traffic congestion in Madhapur and neighbouring areas and to facilitate multiple roads for motorists, especially those working in corporates, to travel without much inconvenience towards Gachibowli, ORR, Shamshabad and other areas.
However, commuters may have to continue to suffer until the government passes a decision in this regard.
A senior GHMC official said that the project has been pending with the state government since a year and that the corporation cannot go ahead without its approval.
In order to provide permanent alternatives, the corporation has decided to construct an elevated corridor 500 metres in length and 45 metres in width, connecting the back of the Biodiversity Park to the Raidurgam Police station.
This will entail cutting a hill and developing the existing road from Khajaguda junction on the Old Mumbai Highway to Gopanapally.
The project will reduce traffic jams and provide alternative routes to motorists traveling from Cyber Towers to Raidurgam, Khajaguda, Gopanpally, Tolichowki and other areas.
The project is expected to cost about Rs 700 crore.
